We see them through many trials and tribulations including the death of their father and the loss of the mill..

Maggies romantice attachments form to two men during the duration of the novel. A Romeo and Juliet type affair with Phillip Wakem who's father is in feud in Maggie's own father. Later she also finds herself very much attracted to Stephen Guest for whom the attraction is mutual. Unfortunately Guest is the fiance of her cousin, can they find the strength to deny each other and stay faithful to their previous attachments? Or will their feelings for each other lead them down a scandalous path?

Synopsis:

This book follows the lives of several residents in the fictional town of Middlemarch. It is set in Victorian England and shows the strikingly different lives between the classes, while all intertwined because of being resident in Middlemarch and it's surrounding areas. We are at first introduced to the rich and beautiful Dorothea who promises to marry a much older intellectual gentleman by the name of Casaubon, whom Dorothea believes will help her improve her mind while she helps him with writing his books.

We are then introduced to the Vincy's, the patriarch of the family is the town Mayor, his daughter Rosamund is considered very beautiful, and his son Fred is goal-less and debt-ridden, believing himself to be the benefactor of his Uncle's estate he is just biding his time waiting for the old man to die so he can come into his fortune. Rosamund Vincy sets her sights on the new Doctor in the town determined to marry an outsider to Middlemarch and escape to greener pastures. Things don't work out the way any of the Middlemarchers plan and hope.

What will Jane do when Mr Rochester eventually marries Miss Blanche Ingram? Can she really leave Thornfield and her heart behind her?

Love and Friendship (with the mispelling) was written by Austen when she was 14. It is believed to have been something she perhaps wrote for the amusement of her family and is a parody of romantic novels of the time. It is in letter (epistolary) form from Laura to the daughter of her friend, Marianne.

It features many turns and twists of unbelievable coincidence, and when taken as the parody it undoubtedly is, gives wonderful insight into the understanding of the young Jane Austen.

Lady Susan is Jane Austen's only book in epistolary style (letters). It features the correspondence between Lady Susan and her friend Mrs Johnson, Lady De Courcy and her daughter Mrs Vernon.

It centres mainly on the actions of the extremely self-serving Lady Susan and her her devious schemes to marry off her daughter in an unappropriate match with a man she hates. All the while the unlikable Susan is persuing lovers of her own, which lead to disaster.
